Breadcrumbs: shortcode, block and structured data

Breadcrumbs show the way from the home page to the page being read: a page and its parents, a post and its category, a product and its shop, archives, categories, authors, dates, search and 404. Search engines read them too (BreadcrumbList), unless an SEO plugin already prints it. Switch the whole tool off on the Dashboard.

Settings

  • Name of the home page: empty shows Home in the site’s language.
  • Separator: a character or a little HTML (a span, an icon, a small image). Pick one under Ready separators to put it in the field.
  • Show the page itself at the end and Make the page itself a link.
  • Show them on the home page too.
  • Add the markup search engines read (BreadcrumbList).

Where to print them

Print them by themselves has two choices: No, you put them into the layout yourself, or above the content of every post and page, for a theme where nothing can be placed. They are not printed twice where you already placed them. To place them yourself:

  • a shortcode in a page, a text widget or the Shortcode widget of Elementor and other builders,
  • a theme template call in header.php, single.php and similar files,
  • in the block editor and block themes, the block Baza breadcrumbs in the Design group.

The shortcode is [baza_helper_breadcrumbs]. The older [baza_breadcrumbs] still works. It can take a class and a home name for one place:

[baza_helper_breadcrumbs class="my-class" home="Start"]

In a theme template use <?php baza_helper_breadcrumbs(); ?>. In the card Put them into the layout there are no Copy buttons: click a line of code, or press Enter on it, and it is copied with a pop-up.
