Warm This Page: Clear and Rebuild the Cache of One Page

After you change a page, you may want the visitors to see the new version at once, without waiting for the cache to refresh. The Warm this page action in the admin bar does that for the page you are viewing.

How to use it

  1. Open the page on the site while you are logged in.
  2. In the admin bar, click Warm this page. It sits next to Clear the cache of this page.
  3. Wait for the toast message.

What happens

  • The cache of the page is emptied, both the saved page and its direct copy in every time slot.
  • The page is requested twice. The first request builds it and saves it. The second shows what a visitor gets.
  • The toast says where the visitor’s copy came from.

What the toast says

  • Served as a direct copy: the web server sent the saved file without starting WordPress.
  • Served from the page cache: the page was taken from the saved PHP copy.
  • An error with the reason, for example a response code or a connection problem. Check the reason, then try again.

Limits

The action works only for addresses of this site. Use Clear the cache of this page when you only need to remove the copy and do not need it rebuilt.
