SVG uploads: add SVG images to the media library safely

WordPress refuses SVG files by default, because an SVG can carry scripts. The SVG uploads tool of Baza Helper lets the media library accept SVG images, but only static artwork: each file is checked and rebuilt from a short list of allowed elements, and anything else is refused.

Turn it on

  1. Open Baza Helper > Dashboard and find the card SVG uploads.
  2. Check that its switch is on. It is on by default; switch it off to refuse SVG files again.
  3. Upload an .svg file to the media library as you upload any picture.

The user who uploads needs the right to upload files, which Author, Editor and Administrator have.

What is accepted

  • A static SVG of up to 256 KB.
  • Paths and shapes: path, rect, circle, ellipse, line, polyline and polygon, with groups, gradients, clip paths and masks.
  • Simple effects of exported artwork: blur, flood, blend, offset, colour matrix, composite and merge.
  • References that stay inside the file, such as fill=”url(#id)”.

What is refused

  • Scripts, event attributes and any other attribute that is not on the allowed list.
  • External resources: linked images, fonts and addresses.
  • A DOCTYPE or ENTITY declaration.
  • Elements outside the list, for example text, image, use and style.

A file that breaks these rules is refused as a whole, with the message “Use a static SVG with paths and shapes; scripts and external resources are blocked.” If your SVG has text, convert it to outlines in your drawing program and export it again.

Size on the page

Baza Helper takes the proportions from the viewBox of the file and writes a width and a height of at most 512 pixels, so a picture exported without a size does not fill the whole page.

Replace image

The Replace image tool accepts SVG while SVG uploads is on. If the tool is off, a chosen SVG gets a message that names the switch.

Pictures from an AI assistant

Pictures that an assistant hands in through Content Review are never SVG: JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP and AVIF only. Upload an SVG yourself in the media library.
